Knowing the Limits: Professional Boundaries

Knowing the Limits: Professional Boundaries

Building meaningful therapeutic relationships is central to hospice and palliative care practice, yet maintaining professional boundaries can be one of the most complex aspects of caring for patients, families, and caregivers. In this engaging and reflective webinar, presenters Lisa M. Kappy, MS, APRN-CNP, PNP-PC, CLS and Sarah Leighty, BA, CCLS draw on their experiences in pediatric intensive care, hospice, and palliative care to explore the role of professional boundaries in fostering healthy, effective therapeutic relationships.

Through case studies and practical strategies, participants will examine common boundary challenges, reflect on their own practice patterns, and consider approaches for navigating difficult situations while preserving professionalism, trust, and compassion. The presenters encourage participants to evaluate how personal values, workplace culture, leadership expectations, and self-awareness influence boundary-setting in clinical practice.

This session is designed for hospice and palliative care professionals across disciplines who seek to strengthen their ability to build meaningful connections while maintaining professional integrity. Participants will leave with increased awareness of boundary-related issues, strategies for self-reflection, and tools to support healthy relationship-building with patients, families, colleagues, and team members.
