Pain Management Updates 2020

Pain Management Updates 2020: What We Need to Know in Palliative Nursing

presented by Judy Paice, PhD, CNS, APN, ACHPN

The need for current practice information about pain and its management due to the evolving epidemics of undertreatment, opioid overdose and COVID-19 is crucial as a practicing hospice and palliative nurse. While it is well appreciated hospice and palliative clinicians have a solid foundation of pain management, it has been identified there is a dearth of up to date information about the effects of these epidemics on clinical practice. Through the utilization case-based approaches, this activity is designed to assimilate current information regarding evolving epidemics with safe and effective pain management practices by analyzing the unintended consequences of efforts to reduce the opioid epidemic, integrating current strategies to provide safe and effective pain management in clinical practice and evaluating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on pain management.
