Use of Validated Tools in Clinical Management
Recognizing advances in the field, the 4th Ed. of the NCP Clinical Practice Guidelines highlighted the importance of validated tools to assess and manage pain and other symptoms as well as address the impact of functional status on quality of life. Guideline 2.2, criteria 2.2.3 emphasizes IDTs to utilize validated symptom and functional assessment tools, appropriate to the care of neonates, children, adolescents, and adults with serious illnesses. This session is designed to increase the participants knowledge of valid and responsive patient and caregiver assessment tools essential to measuring the quality and effectiveness of palliative care delivery.
