At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe unique pharmacodyanamic and pharmacokinetic characteristics of buprenorphine and application to caring for patients with a serious illness.
  • Explain the roles of psychedelic agents, and potential role in hospice and palliative care patients.
  • Discuss recent findings from an international consensus-building process in opioid conversions and equivalencies, including methadone.
  • Summarize recommendations on palliative pharmacotherapy for cardiovascular disease from the American Heart Association.
  • Develop a strategy for medication administration for patients who are unable to swallow.
